The Szeged Open-Air Festival, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is the most significant open-air music and theatre festival in Hungary and it is one of the most remarkable ones in all Central Europe. Besides the Open-Air Festival, Szeged is internationally renowned for its superb Pick salami, its paprika and fish soup.


The recently renovated centre of Szeged has been awarded the Europa Nostra award. The centre has a lively mediterranean air with numerous quaint cafes and terraces situated along the way. The major attractions of the area include the synagogue, which is one of the largest in Europe, the medicinal bath with its unique oriental design, and the spectacular Votive Church. Aside from the Open Air Festival, sightseeing and recreational activities are available for tourists in the city and its vicinity.
